Dear Readers;
When we decided to focus on local men who devote their lives to the Northeast Ohio com-munity, we quickly came upon the fascinating work of Brian Jones, Araaman Alvin Fudge and Corky Larsen. Radiating un-selfish love, they shine brilliantly with creativity and compassion. Each one connects to people in our community, and also to a deep spiritual awareness. We all can learn from these role models.
Brian Jones, a successful artist, teaches us that life's journey will occasionally offer a departure from the familiar. If we are open to the opportunities, abundant satisfaction and success may develop. In addition to offering profound and beautiful art to our community, Brain selflessly leads free meditation sessions because he recognizes the power and impact it has had on his life and career.
Araaman Alvin Fudge is far more than the sum of his titles “artist,” “minister” and “author.” Kindness and love of humanity emanate from his spirit as he promotes his philosophy of “Art As Healing.” Araaman works extensively with children in our community because, as he says, “Children are our treasure.” In addition to exploring art and education with them, he devotes time to placing foster children with local grandparents.
Corky Larsen is a testament to the human spirit's strength and ability to heal. Persevering through pain and adversity, Corky chose to follow the path of personal growth. His introspection led him to the decision to not only heal himself, but also to devote his life to helping others heal through his work as a counselor and spiritual teacher.
In our “I Love My Job” column we feature Marc Nathanson, a man who integrates his head, heart and spirit into his profession. As the Director of Development for New Life Community, a unique transitional program, he is passionate about the center's work in transforming the lives of homeless and jobless people into productive members of society. Understanding that everyone possesses the qualities of both teacher and student, he takes the opportunity to learn about persistence and courage from the residents.
In this issue, we also explore different facets of the topic of prosperity. Our article “Financial Wellness” discusses how to address appropriate money management in order to reduce the impact of related stresses in our lives. In his article “True Prosperity,” author Michael Roads defines money as nothing more or less than energy. He explains that prosperity goes far beyond wealth. Illustrated by a wonderful story in “A Perfect Match,” Alan Cohen explains, “You own what you own not through money or force, but through your love for it and your spiritual connection to it.”
We hope that this issue inspires you to discover how you, too, may transform your life and the lives of those in your community. We are quite confident that it will lead you to prosperous satisfaction!
With gratitude,

Thank you for your wonderful magazine! What you are doing is truly important and revolutionary in our beautiful yet sickly society. You are using your voice to spread love and knowledge in the world, and the world is better for it. Thank you also for including the beautifully written piece about my band, the Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey [May-June 2004], and helping us spread our message of health and self-healing to those who might not otherwise have heard it. It is so important in this day and age not only to educate oneself about holistic living, but also to spread the word amongst our neighbors who might still be under the hypnosis of pharmaceutical advertising and "four food groups pyramid" nutritional misinformation. Don't be fooled, America. Your money is more important than your health to the "health" industry as a whole, and it's up to individuals to heal that wound, starting with themselves. Thank you, Balanced Living Magazine and Franklin Malemud, for doing what you do, and for including Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey in it.
God Bless,
Reed Mathis

I live in South Florida, and even though I'm a thousand miles away, I look forward to receiving my Balanced Living every other month. It is sent to me by a friend who lives in Cleveland. In my area, there are half a dozen magazines trying to accomplish what Balanced Living does so well: informative, entertaining, slick production value, a concise directory of local holistic services. Not one of them comes close. Your magazine is a model for
all other community-based holistic publications.
Wishing you continued success in your second year.

Thanks for another great issue. With every turn of the page there's something interesting and informative. I loved the article by Wendy Johnson, MD, ("What the Labels Don't Tell You" May-June 2004), and the profile on Marianne Williamson (May-June 2004) was especially good. The quality of Balanced Living continues to be outstanding...I even read all the advertisements! Sincerely,
