My services at the Rocky River location included a massage, body wrap and facial. The Lomi Lomi Massage is a revered healing art passed down from generation to generation by the great Kahuna Healers of Hawaii. There is a Hawaiian philosophy called Huna, which is based upon the premise that everything seeks harmony and love. During this particular massage, which also is known as the Loving Hands Massage, the therapist offers the client an intention of love and uses loving hands and a loving heart, rather than focusing on the technique. The practitioner works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes, totally nurturing the body and enabling the client to relax, give in and simply “be.”
Samantha McCabe, my massage therapist, used fluid, rhythmic motions using her hands, forearms and hot stones. It felt as though gentle waves of relaxation were moving throughout my body, resulting in a deep state of calm. Samantha explained, “Using full-body strokes repeated three times helps to free the energy and make the body soft. It promotes free and abundant flow-of-life energy and helps restore harmony and balance. After my massage, my muscles and joints felt flexible and relaxed. I also felt an “aloha spirit” exuding from Samantha. In Hawaii this means much more than simply “hello” or “goodbye.” “Aloha” translates to “in the presence of the breath of life of the creator.”
Charles Scott Salon & Spa also offers conventional massages, such as Deep Tissue Massage and Sports Massage. Its Shiatsu Massage is a Japanese therapy that combines acupressure and other manual-therapy techniques. The prices for massage span from $40 for a half-hour foot reflexology massage to $110 for one-and-a-half hour hot stone massage.

The body wrap I selected was the Siddha Body Detoxification, which is a deep relaxing herb and warm essential-oil treatment wrap that helps flush toxins from sore muscles. It also helps to activate the body's dormant repairing mechanisms. In ancient India, this rejuvenation treatment was originally reserved for royalty and the wealthy. The therapist, Leslie Lloyd, warmed up a canvas pouch containing cloves, eucalyptus, rosemary and trace minerals and then infused it with hazelnut oil for my detoxifying rub. Then she gently swept the herbs across my body in a circular motion while pressing down on my skin. She explained, “This allows the skin to effectively absorb the oils, enabling the nutrients to reach the cells, making the removal of accumulated waste possible.” This wrap also can stimulate the lymphatic system, cleanse the blood and enhance the immune system by encouraging the production of new white blood cells. After the healing herbs had time to penetrate deeply into my skin, she wrapped me tightly in plastic. While lying on the table enveloped in the warm wrap, I felt a sense of well being knowing the oils were working to detoxify my body. Afterwards, along with a deep sense of relaxation, I also felt that a deep cleansing had taken place in my body. Although I was very happy with my choice of wrap, I could have chosen Charles Scott's Salt Glow with a Vichy Shower for improved circulation and soft skin or a Target Trimming body wrap. This treatment allows a particular area of the body to be wrapped.

The prices of the spa's body treatments range from $63 to $70.
Last of all, my visit included a Heaven Scent premier facial. After a thorough cleansing and toning, esthetician Claudia Lupsa applied a special enzyme therapy with steam to my face. She then massaged my face, neck and arms. This was the most thorough and hands-on massage I have ever received during a facial. How nice that she took the time to really pamper me! After she expertly extracted any remaining impurities, Claudia applied a “retexturizer” cultivated with a warm paraffin mask to provide nourishment and hydration. Claudia's knowledge, friendliness and expertise in determining the right facial and techniques for my skin was impressive. The next day my skin was absolutely glowing!
A particularly interesting facial at Charles Scott is the Japanese Hot Stone Facial. It takes their deep-cleansing facial a step further by adding the rich and therapeutic value of hot stones. The costs of the spa's facial treatments range from $45 to $80.
In my opinion, a trip to one of the Charles Scott Salon & Spas is well worth your time and money. Their professionalism and attentiveness, combined with nurturing and therapeutic holistic treatments, rival the best spas in Cleveland. Cleanse your mind, body and spirit and melt away your stress at Charles Scott. As the Hawaiians say, “Muscles hold the tears the eyes refuse to shed.”
