Dee Wolk, founder of Dee Wolk's Weight Solution, practices what she preaches. In fact, she is the best advertisement for her life-changing program. Twenty-three years ago, Dee was her own first success story. Eventually, she established her own business based upon her successful weight-control principles. Dee has loads of energy, which she puts into doing what she loves best – teaching people how to break the vicious cycle of dieting and begin a new life.

At age 12 Dee's struggle with weight began. She tried different diets over the years and lost weight but always gained it back. Realizing that she would never be happy as long as she was fat, Dee finally asked herself why diets were not working for her. Determined to find out the answer to her question, she began a personal quest – researching, reading, experimenting and doing a lot of critical thinking. She became the test subject for her own fieldwork, and after a couple of years' research, she found that diets do not work because they only address the symptoms of weight gain, not the cause.

The real problem, Dee discovered, lay in one's mind and emotions. Overweight people tend to have a negative relationship with food. They do not eat to satisfy “body” hunger; they eat to satisfy emotional and mental hungers, or because the clock dictates that it is “time to eat.” “The act of dieting creates an obsession with food,” Dee explains. “When on a diet, all you think of is what you can or cannot eat. The attention is always on food. Dieting offers no solution for emotional eating. Diets do not show you how to love yourself without using food.”

Putting her ideas to the test, Dee began eating only when her body told her she was hungry and stopped when her body was satisfied. She also incorporated her newly gained knowledge of good nutrition and the body's metabolic functions. Then she started to deal with her emotional and psychological issues surrounding food. Not surprisingly, she began to lose weight. “The only thing food can really take care of is physical hunger. I had to learn to take care of myself with things other than food and to feed my body only when I was physically hungry,” she describes.

Dee lost weight and kept it off, and her friends soon began to notice. Upon telling them that she was not on a diet, her friends were skeptical. “How can you lose weight if you are not on a diet?” they asked. When she told them what she had discovered through her own experiences, they said, “Teach us.” Dee began working with two clients in her home. Word of mouth soon spread and more and more people came to her in hope of finding success.

Dee loves her job because it gives her an opportunity to help her clients find the joy in life and the pleasure in eating that she has found. Her weight-management program utilizes a holistic approach. She helps clients address the needs of the body through the science of weight-loss: metabolic functions, nutrition and exercise. And using an intuitive, psychoanalytic approach (although she is not a clinician), Dee addresses the role the mind plays in order to help people find their own underlying negative relationship with food. They often discover that the causes are problems with themselves, their jobs or their family. “Feeding the mind and the soul requires a person to get in touch with their true feelings, acknowledge them and then begin the work toward self love and self awareness,” Dee shares. “It is fun for me to give clients the tools they need to be successful in their work toward positive self-change.”

Dee gives her clients unconditional love and acceptance while at the same time encouraging them to take full responsibility for the way they treat themselves and for how they let others treat them. During the eight-week program, she calls clients weekly to see how they are doing, answer their questions and offer them coaching and encouragement. This personal approach assures clients that they are not alone in this endeavor, and that someone understands their struggle.

Dee proudly explains why she loves her job, “That simple question I asked myself 23 years ago, and the answer I found, has reduced my body size and expanded my soul. Following my program has given me freedom and power. Most rewarding of all, I have guided thousands of people to connect with their minds, bodies and spirits while getting thinner, healthier and happier.”
